Yara Benhamou

Associate

Yara handles the firm’s copyright work and the contracts creative people are asked to sign.

Yara played in bands through college and spent two years booking tours before law school, so she has read a good many bad contracts from the wrong side of the table.

She registers songs, photographs, films and code, sends takedown notices when work is copied, and reads distribution, sync and commission agreements before they’re signed.

How she works

She asks to hear, see or read the work before she talks about protecting it. Then she reads every contract line by line with you on the call, and marks the clauses worth pushing back on and the ones that are normal.

Registrations are filed in batches when that saves you fees, and she keeps a list of what is registered and what isn’t.
